Course Description: Efficiency and productivity are important concepts in economic analysis in firm analysis and trade competitiveness. This course will cover the economic concepts of efficiency and productivity and show how to empirically measure efficiency and productivity using both regression and mathematical programming techniques. The regression technique is often referred to as Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA), while the mathematical programming technique is typically referred to as Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). Although a number of software packages are available to compute efficiency and productivity, the open software R will be used.
