On the occasion of the ongoing celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Faculty of Economics and Management of SUA in Nitra, on Wednesday 2 October the lecture within the subject „Global Marketing and Emerging Markets“ was held at FEM, named „Refugee/immigrants – the process of challenges and drivers in the Swedish agricultural sector or Food as a business and as an integration key in a new country“. It was lecture by a Syrian citizen and graduated agricultural engineer Ghazal Zalkat, living and working in Sweden, where she immigrated in 2015, shortly after the outbreak of the migration crisis in Europe. The aim of the arrangement of this lecture, aimed at approaching the position of immigrants and the possibilities of their application in the business sphere in the new country, is the fact that FEM SUA in Nitra perceives this issue as very up-to-date and through the practical experience of this young woman, it wishes to point out the vast possibilities and challenges that are hidden in the incoming immigrants for the aging population – which, however, has different prejudices – as well as for the proper functioning of European countries. During her inspirational lecture supplemented by prac ical workshops with students, Ghazal Zalkat presented her job in Sweden, where she works at Halmstad University as a research assistant and student advisor for entrepreneuring in the agricultural sphere on the opportunities and challenges that the new country brings to immigrants. She helps students to overcome obstacles and provides valuable advice, thereby encouraging them to integrate into a new society and fill existing market “holes” that immigrants can cover by their diversity in the immigrants themselves and the refugees on the example of Sweden and her person, while Ghazal had constantly underlined the need for integration, both economic and social, while highlighting the added value of diversity that immigrants have, but often wrongly perceive it as a disadvantage. Students also had the opportunity to learn good examples of successful business plans from practice, which pointed to the main message of the lecture that immigrants (even refugees who are in an even more difficult situation) can make a significant contribution and enrichment also to advanced economies and culturally very different societies.
Within the international academic week, lectures at FEM SUA in Nitra were also attended by Dr. Pei-Ju Lucy Ting of National Taipei University (Taiwan), associate professor Gaetano Macario of University of Bari Aldo Moro (Italy) and Barbara Kielbasa of the University of Agriculture in Krakow (Poland).
