Dean´s welcome

Welcome to the website of the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) of the SUA in Nitra, which will provide you with an overview of the focus and activities of one of the best economic faculties in Slovakia with more than 60 years of tradition in higher education and research.

The Faculty of Economics and Management is one of the six faculties of the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra and its mission is to educate, conduct research and provide advice on economics and management with an emphasis on reflecting the societal development  and the latest scientific research in this field.  Its operation as part of the Slovak University of Agriculture also provides space for interdisciplinary solutions to economic and managerial problems, specific to the food chain, rural development and related industries in the sectors of production, trade and services.

FEM is one of the largest faculties of the university in terms of the number of students. The faculty has also the highest number of foreign students studying at SUA, which speaks for the good reputation not only in the national but also in the international environment. The faculty provides quality economic and managerial education within accredited study programmes at all three levels of study. At the bachelor's degree level, there are study programmes offered in Slovak language, namely Business Economics, Business Management, Trade and Entrepreneurship, Accounting, Quantitative Methods in Economics, Applications of Informatics in Business Economics and Management and Social Management and Services in the Agricultural Sector. The study programme International Business with Agrarian Commodities and Business Management is taught in English. At the master´s degree level the following study programmes are offered: Business Economics, Business Management, Agrarian Trade and Marketing, Quantitative Methods in Economics and in English Business Economics and International Economics and Development. PhD studies are provided in all programmes (Economics and Business Management, Economics and Management of Agriculture and Food, Agrarian Trade and Marketing) in Slovak and English.

We are proud that it has been more than 10 years since the faculty started teaching in English and gradually began to create possibilities for contractual cooperation in the field of international mobility programmes and obtaining double diplomas. Currently, the faculty provides this opportunity within the Business Economics programme in cooperation with the Faculty of Agriculture and Economics of the University of Agriculture in Krakow, where in addition to the contractual mobility programme and the opportunity to obtain two diplomas, the faculty also has an accredited joint diploma "International Master in Business Economics." Our students also have a great chance to study the International Economics and Development study programme in cooperation with Middlesex University in London and obtain, in addition to our degree, the MSc degree from this prestigious university.

In the field of scientific research, the staff of the Faculty of Economics and Management deals with current economic, managerial and marketing issues throughout the food chain, agricultural policies and finances in the agro-sector, food security and last but not least sustainable development issues from several aspects as well as food waste management. Since 2018, the Laboratory of Consumer Studies has been operating at the faculty, which in cooperation with the AgroBioTech Research Centre and other departments of the university develops interdisciplinary research and implements new technologies in research and decision-making, especially the use of biometric and neuromarketing methods and aromas in practice. Successfully implemented national and international projects, research for practice, publication outputs recognized at international level and numerous awards are the best proof of the quality scientific research activities of the faculty.

One of the priorities of the faculty is the cooperation with practice, the main goal of which is to connect education to current problems and practical experience, improving teaching through selected lectures, excursions, professional practice or guaranteeing a professional subject or study programme by renowned business entities and institutions.  You can read about some of the examples of our active cooperation with practice on our website, but also see concrete examples at the premises of our faculty: an IBM multifunctional classroom, Deloitte training room for accountants, Kaufland relax corner, PwC relaxation zone, Retail Academy Lidl or outdoor relaxation zone.

More than 60 years of successful history of the Faculty of Economics and Management is on the one hand a guarantee of quality education, which has its tradition and value verified over time, but on the other hand a commitment for current and future generations to maintain and further develop the values entrusted to the faculty. We will do our best to ensure that the faculty continues to be a competitive educational institution on a national and international scale educating graduates who find jobs in the demanding labour market joining our 25,000 member family of successful graduates.
